What AERO-USD is

AERO-USD is the price of Aerodrome Finance (AERO) quoted against the US dollar [DOC-1]. Aerodrome is a decentralized exchange (DEX) and automated market maker (AMM) built natively on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2, launched in August 2023 by Dromos Labs (the team behind Velodrome on Optimism) [DOC-1], [DOC-3], [DOC-9], [DOC-12]. It operates on a ve(3,3) tokenomics model: users lock AERO to receive veAERO, which grants voting power over which liquidity pools receive weekly AERO emissions, and locking also gives fee exposure [DOC-9], [DOC-12]. Aerodrome is Base's dominant liquidity venue, capturing roughly 49%–63% of Base DEX swap volume depending on the window and source [DOC-10]. Note that several general web results for "aerodrome" describe an airport/airfield, which is a homonym and unrelated to this digital asset [22], [23].
