What Aleo Is

Aleo is a Layer-1 blockchain built around zero-knowledge cryptography, designed to enable fully private, programmable decentralized applications [12][27]. The mainnet went live [11], and the network combines general-purpose programmability with ZK proofs for privacy [12]. It uses AleoBFT, a formally verified consensus mechanism [5], and is the first blockchain to support fully private transactions on Ledger hardware wallets [14].
