What GFI-USD Is

GFI is the native token of Goldfinch, a decentralized credit/lending protocol launched in 2021 by former Coinbase employees Mike Sall and Blake West (operated by Warbler Labs) and backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase Ventures. Its thesis was connecting crypto capital to creditworthy businesses in emerging markets (Africa, Southeast Asia) that traditional banks overlooked, using junior/senior tranche mechanics. GFI facilitated over $100M in loans across ~18 countries before its troubles. The "-USD" in GFI-USD simply denotes the dollar quote pair and is not part of the asset's name.
